Back to the front page"The Last Son" is the title of a novel by Ole Rasholdt. The story takes place during the Viking Period in Scandinavia where we meet Egil, son of the king, who is the main character of the book. He is out hunting with Yngve who has taught him so much of all the things that are so important for a man to be able to do, such as building traps in the woods and shooting a bow and arrow. Suddenly they were sent after: the king wanted to speak to his son - the last.
Egil is captured - he is to be sacrificed. Unhappy and confused he is tied up in his prison. The old witch prepares him and takes him to the place for the blood sacrifice (blot) where, among others, his father is present. When the lightening unexpectedly strikes nearby - a sign from the gods - she lets him free: Run, Egil, run...
